Denver-Close Mansion Is A Standout In Its Affluent Neighborhood

Real Estate

Cherry Hills Village is a well-heeled community in the greater Denver area, about 10 miles from downtown yet somewhat of a world away.

Its lush parklike neighborhoods are filled with luxury homes in a variety of architectural styles – some exceeding 10,000 square feet and sitting on lots of more than an acre. Just the setting for large-scale entertaining.

This nearly two-acre estate is set behind gates on a double lot with a tennis court and a swimming pool. The 16,209-square-foot mansion, with a stone exterior and a slate roof, was originally designed in the 1980s by Michael Barber and built by Al Cohen Construction Co. Then in 2015 it underwent a contemporary transformation under the guidance of designer David Hintgen and builder Micky Miller.

Tall double doors open to the foyer, which has a skylight at the apex of its pyramidal ceiling. Wide gallery halls lead to the four main living spaces – the dining room, the study, the family room and the living room. There are inlaid oak parquet floors.

Eye-catching details are everywhere: The glitzy wet bar sets off the three Lucite-like stools. A marble fireplace framed by windows sits under a vaulted ceiling with heavy wooden beams. Walls of glass open to an indoor spa.

A multi-tiered tray ceiling tops the formal dining room, which can accommodate a table seating 22 guests.

Peninsulas and an island bring added counter space to the kitchen. Other living spaces include five bedrooms and a contemporary office. Features of the 11 bathrooms include floating-style vanities and a soaking tub.

The attached pool house creates another spot to gather or dine.

A sweeping driveway fronts the house and leads to gated motor court parking. Trees create a privacy barrier along the property boundaries.
