Academy Securities continues to expand its national public finance platform with the addition of a career-long municipal banker and advisor, the firm said this week.

Anton Voinov joins the veteran-owned and operated firm’s public finance division as a director and head of Southeast banking, a position the firm has been longing to fill to complement its growing presence in Chapel Hill, N.C., according to Rick Kolman, managing director and head of the municipal group.

The firm has recently added to its sales coverage and will continue to make hires to expand the business, which includes about 20 professionals working in the municipal departments located in Chicago, New York, Chapel Hill, Texas, and California, Kolman said.

“We are looking to elevate our public finance presence and our long-term goal is to senior manager or co-senior manage more transactions,” Kolman added.

Enter Voinov who has extensive experience in finance and capital markets, with a public finance specialty.

He arrives at Academy from his most recent stint at Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors in Washington, D.C., where he was a managing director for three years, following a role as a senior vice president at Siebert Williams Shank, also in Washington, where he worked for nearly eight years.

He began his career in 2005 at Public Financial Management in Philadelphia where he worked as a senior managing consultant for five years.

Voinov is a member of the Board of Governors of the Association of Public Finance Professionals, a role he has held for more than seven years.

He holds a Master of Science degree from the London School of Business, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Swarthmore College.

Kolman believes Voinov’s long career and experience in public is an asset to the firm overall, especially its Southeast banking division.

The firm is already a frequent co-manager in the Southeast, including serving as a co-senior manager for a recent Atlanta Airport financing and a co-manager for various District of Columbia, Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina-related financings, according to Kolman.

In addition, the firm has completed senior manager roles for Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and the California Veterans Housing program, as well as served as a co-senior manager in over 15 transactions in the past year, he noted.

Nationally, it has ranked in the top 10 among all co-managers among competitive and negotiated financings combined, Kolman added.
